Photo organization tip for Windows XP

Here’s a tip for Windows XP Users.
If you have large folders of Images and wish to rename them you can do this sequentially in the windows explorer.
Say you have put all your ‘Holiday 2006′ Photos in one folder so you now have 127 images in a folder that look something like this…
DSCN6336.JPG
DSCN6339.JPG
DSCN6344.JPG
DSCN6345.JPG
DSCN6346.JPG
DSCN6347.JPG
DSCN6356.JPG
DSCN6358.JPG
DSCN6336.JPG
etc…
To rename the files sequentially first of all select all of the files you want to rename, (in this case all the files in the folder)
You can do this by selecting the last file in the list, then pressing shift and clicking on the first file in the list.
Then right click on the first file in the list and choose ‘rename’ from the emerging menu. Type in the new name and then click in the blank white space to de-select the files.
As you deselect the files they will automatically get renamed. (This may take a short while depending on how many files you have selected and how slow your computer is)
So using the example before, you could re-name the first file Holiday 2006.jpg and you would get the following result.
Holiday 2006.jpg
Holiday 2006(1).jpg
Holiday 2006(2).jpg
Holiday 2006(3).jpg
Holiday 2006(4).jpg
Holiday 2006(5).jpg
Holiday 2006(6).jpg
Holiday 2006(7).jpg
Holiday 2006(8).jpg
etc.
